Getting Your Class A Commercial Driver's License

Fresno Truck Training is here to help you with everything you will need in order to make sure you succeed in obtaining your Class A Commercial Driver's License. Below is a brief step by step guide on what you need to complete in order to receive your license.

Step 1: Get A Commercial Learner's Permit

The first thing you need to do is obtain your commercial learner's permit. Without this permit, you are not legally authorized to practice driving using our trucks or any commercial vehicle. You must pass the knowledge tests administered by the DMV to obtain your permit. For a complete list of requirements from the DMV in order to apply for a permit and take the test, click here.

Step 2: Complete your Entry-Level Driver Training

If your permit was issued on or after February 7, 2022, then this is required. Before you are allowed to take your commercial driver's license (CDL) skills test, you must receive entry-level driver training (ELDT) from a registered ELDT provider (that's us). After you complete your training at Fresno Truck Training, we will log your training into the Training Provider Registry that FMCSA has provided for us. After that, you can look up your logged information using the FMCSA website by clicking here.

Step 3: Pass the Commercial Driver's License Skills Test

Once you have completed your ELDT and have held your permit for 14 days, you can take the CDL Skills Test at the DMV. Fresno Truck Training will prepare you for the test separated into the following sections: Vehicle Inspections, Basic Controls, and finally Driving on the Road. Also, if you have not scheduled an appointment to take the test yourself then we will schedule one for you. Once you pass the test, you will receive your license.
